Okay, so lets rewind back to Christmas-time now...I did my Holidaily again like I have done for the past few years -- it is like a December Daily but instead of just doing the month of December, I like to include part of November and January too so that I can encompass the three holidays of the "Holiday season" which are of course, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Anyways, I was not as on top of my Holidaily as I was with my October daily so I am actually still working on it, but that is okay, things have been rough with my health and I will just get it done when I get it done...phew.
For now I have all the pictures (except for a few which I am totally not above staging) and I have all the journaling (either completed or I have notes so I know what happened and I can just fill it in when I get to it). Like I did with my October Daily, I made a journal page template on photoshop so each day I could just type in my journaling with my own handwriting font and then print it out. In addition to making it easier, it also lends a sense of continuity and flow to the Daily.
As you may know, if you have done a December Daily, it can seem chaotic and choppy and haphazard if you don't do something to tie it all together. This can be done with the journaling or repetition of elements or keeping a steady color palette...etc. I worked within a color palette of pink, red, green and aqua to keep things cohesive as well. And I repeated images like little deers, hearts, stars, and snowflakes throughout the album for the same reason.
I did my vintage/retro style :-) throughout the album. Or actually I should say albums because even though it is not done, I am already onto a second album! But that is okay! I chose to use the Simple Stories 6x8 albums in red and pink. For the papers and embellishments I used Crate Paper Bundled Up and Close Knit, as well as some Maggie Holmes Flea Market, and October Afternoon Silent Night and EggNog, and Amy Tan Cut and Paste, and Dear Lizzy Polkadot Party, and Basic Grey 25th and Pine, and some older stuff from my stash like October Afternoon Make it Merry and Echo Park This and That Christmas, etc...
To make the Thanksgiving section not look so Christmas-y, but still make it fit with the rest of the album, I just cut the red out of my color palette for those pages and stuck to using the pinks and the aquas. I think it worked well.
I did pocket pages for my Holidaily (for the first time) this year and I have to say I loved it! So I will probably do the same again for the next Holidaily. Oh and because I did pocket pages, I used a ton of project life cards from the Maggie Holmes Fleamarket mini kit and the Dear Lizzy Polkadot Party mini kit as well as a ton of cards from my different Studio Calico Project life kits. And I designed some of my own pl cards and some other decorative pages and things on photoshop...like the cover page and a lot of the Thanksgiving stuff for example.
I also used some beautiful and unique journal cards from my friend Carrie's December Daily Christmas kit -- like this little reindeer card on the above left page (and the white die cut stars card on the Thanksgiving layout). The sparkly tag in the pocket on the above right page is also from the kit. Her work is beautiful and you should totally check it all out at www.carrieelias.blogspot.com.
Okay, I hope you like my Holidaily so far! Oh and I will try to update the blog with more pics of my Holidaily as I get more of it done (my goal is to make sure it is done before I start on the next one)...I can totally do it :-) And I hoped you enjoyed this little rewind to Halloween and Christmas. It is definitely fun to look back, but now, lets look forward with some new craftiness!
