Today I'm excited to share with you my “Favorite Picks” project that I made using the Maggie Holmes Bloom collection for Crate Paper. Everyone has favorites...favorite color, favorite song, favorite food...etc. For me these would be as follows: Color – blue and pink. Song – A Case of You by Joni Mitchell, Princes of the Universe by Queen, Flightless Bird by Iron & Wine, a whole bunch of Disney songs, and many others I can't even think of right now but, trust me, there's a lot! Food – Churros (or Pan Dulce, depending on what's available)
I think by now you can see that picking just one favorite of anything for me is impossible! I have lots of favorites! So when I was asked to do a project with my favorite photo, well I tried but I couldn't pick just one. So I decided to make a project where I could share lots of “favorites”! I made a cute curio cabinet out of an adorable house shaped shelf that Ryan helped me make (i.e. made for me using his awesome carpenter skills...but designed and decorated by me). I decorated the shelf with paper from Bloom and I made the shelf into a curio by filling it with some of my favorite things, including a little mini album with some of my favorite pictures of me and my favorite person! Because when it comes to things like songs and pictures, well I might have lots of favorites, but when it comes to people, there is really only one and that's my incredible husband, Ryan!
In my “Favorite Picks” curio, I put a couple of my favorite vintage pieces (those two cute ladies heads) and some scrappy things since scrapbooking is my favorite thing to do (like the “love this” stamp from the Bloom collection). I also put a framed pic from our wedding day since that was my favorite moment in life. And of course, in one shelf, I placed my “Favorite Picks” mini album. Mini albums are my favorite thing to make and I thought it would be special to put a bunch of my favorite pics of me and my hubby together in a sweet little album.
The “Favorite Picks” mini album is a 5x5 ½ album that I bound using the Cinch by We R Memory Keepers.
I cut 5x5 ½ squares out of my favorite sheets of patterned paper from the Bloom collection, with each one I made a page by decorating it with a favorite photo and some embellies like stickers or ephemera from Bloom.
In between the larger pages are a few small flip pages made using cards from the cut apart sheet. On the back there are “favorite things” listed on them. For the cover I used a transparency, some of the gold glitter thickers from the collection, a decorative swan card, and I added a couple of paperclips that I made special by adding tassels and paper flowers from the collection.
I love that every page is special and tells a different story from a different moment in my life with my husband!
I tried to include pictures that I love but also thinking about moments that have been favorites in special favorite places, or doing favorite things. I also tried to pick pictures that showcase our personality as a couple and some of the favorite things that I love about us...like our goofy-ness!
I was very mindful of getting pictures from over the course of our relationship...so new pictures plus old ones, plus ones that fell more in the middle, for a more balanced arrangement.
I also wanted to include both colored and black and white pictures within my album.
The above layout is one of my favorites in the mini album! I especially love this picture of Ryan and I from Easter last year. For every picture in the album I tried to compliment the feeling of the picture with the paper on the page...so for this one I used that cute deer paper from the collection because it says spring to me. I also think it may be my favorite pattern in the Bloom collection...probably because I love deer and I collect them! They are a favorite!
I decided to do mostly handwritten journaling in this mini...although there are some typed things as well. Writing in every album is important to me though and writing is one of my favorite things to do so of course I added quite a bit of writing in this album (including some written pages not pictured).
I also included sewing in my album since it is also a favorite past-time of mine!
And of course there are lots of paperclips keeping little bits of ephemera and notes and things clipped here and there because that's just something I love to do.
It was also important to me to include some of Ryan's thoughts and words in this mini since it's really about us and how he is my favorite and my fave pics are of us together... Anyways, I paper-clipped in a little love note that he wrote me recently right behind a photo of he and I on a carousel in San Diego. I love that this note is in there and the way it looks in the album just sort of nonchalantly included.
I really enjoyed making this project! It was fun and easy but with high impact! I hope you will make a “Favorite Picks” album and curio for yourself, using the beautiful Maggie Holmes Bloom collection (which by the way is my favorite collection so far). This way you can keep your favorites all together in a special place in your heart and your home!
