Sunday Sketch: "Beautiful Good Day" Layout | Citrus Twist

Hi all! It's Andrea here and today I will be showing you another take on the Sunday Sketch! Now that you have seen Suse's beautiful 12x12, I thought I would share with you an 8 1/2 x11 alternative! I'm using the same adorable November Citrus Twist kit and the same awesome sketch, but for a differnent size layout and to tell a different story. That is what is so great about sketches, you can use them to suit whatever your scrapbooking needs are! And that's what is so great about this month's kit...it is so versatile!

Lets get started, shall we? First, take another look at the sketch:

Even though the sketch is originally laid out in 12x12 form, an 8 1/2 x11 can be easily adapted from the same basic plan. For my layout, I used some white 8 1/2 x11 cardstock as my background and built up from there, layering up some of the pretty floral Maggie Holmes Gather patterned paper from the kit and some of the Reset Girl for Simple Stories library cards behind my photos.

On one library card, I added some stamping using the exclusive stamp set from this month.

One notable difference is that I used an additional photo in my layout than is originally called for with the sketch. I can get away with the additional photo without throwing off the balance of the layout by using one large focal photo and then three much smaller photos that help tell my fall story more fully.

I used tags behind each of the three smaller photos that take up the space of the three horizontal rectangles lined up down the right side of the sketch. This was inspired by the tag at the top of the sketch.

For the border that is called for in the sketch, I used pen to draw a kind of diagram around my layout, leading from the title at the top "Beautiful Good Day" (made from the Amy Tan thickers and one of the exclusive stickers from the kit) around the whole page, drawing your eye from photo to photo, and then back up to the sentence beneath the title - "this was such a special day with you".

For some special fall touches to my page that help tell my story, I added some leaf shapes. I used some of the pretty black and white Simple Stories patterned paper from the kit and a leaf cutfile I designed, at the top of the page, and then one of the beautiful gold leaf paperclips from the Sprinkles kit, at the bottom of the page.

I hope you enjoyed this look at an alternate 8 1/2 x11 take on today's Sunday Sketch! I really loved this beautiful Fall day out in October with my hubby and I hope you are having lots of special Fall moments with your loved ones!

P.S. Remember to play along with the challenge by posting your Sunday Sketch inspired layout to the Citrus Twist Gallery with today's date (11/20) in the title. You could win a gift certificate for $5 to the Citrus Twist store! Yay! Can't wait to see what you guys make!

Love Love Loving It! - A layout | Hip Kit Club

Hello Everyone! Today I’m excited to share with you a layout and a tag I made with the theme of “beautiful blooms”! I love flowers and I always have. Roses…especially the mini roses that are often called fairy or “pixie” roses! Those are my favorites! I wanted to scrapbook this picture of an outing with my hubby Ryan where he had me pick out some roses. I picked up a ton of the bouquets because they were all so lovely!

For my layout using this picture I decided to use the awesome flower cut-files for this month along with our awesome August Hip Kit club kits! I used both the flowers designed by Ashley Horton and the ones designed by Kim Watson and I combined them in this layout with some of the pretty floral patterned paper that comes in the kit.

I used the Saturday by Dear Lizzy yellow flowered paper and did some fussy cutting of the blooms. For my background, I layered a few different sheets of patterned paper up from Crate Paper and Dear Lizzy, to create a nice frame for my floral bouquet of a layout!

For my embellishments, I used a variety of elements that I thought added a lot of depth and charm to the look of my layout. I sprinkled pink enamel dots here and there from the Cute Girl mixed embellishment pack and added a little golden bow from that pack to the top of my layout too.

For my title, I used the script word “love” from the Amy Tangerine ephemera pack (which I painted pink to match the pinks in my layout), the cool black and white chipboard thickers to spell “love”, and the phrase “loving it” which I cut out of the Oh Happy Life cut apart sheet, and together these spelled out “love, love, loving it”. My title, of course, referring to my love of these amazing roses which just always put a smile on my face….and so does my awesome hubby who still remembers to buy me flowers every once in a while, just because!

For my little tag, I decided to reflect my layout and do a cute little tag, cut from some of the Dear Lizzy Saturday small floral patterned paper, a little phrase I cut out from the Amy Tangerine ephemera pack that says “good times” and one of the lovely floral cutfiles which I painted! I hope you like my layout and my tag and that I have inspired you to have some fun with flowers on your scrappy projects today!

Cute Girls Love Comic Books | Hip Kit Club

Hi everybody, it's Andrea! Today I'm sharing with you a layout that I made using the super fun August Hip Kit Club kits.

There is a really cute, multi-colored, rainbow patterned paper in the kit by Amy Tangerine that I really wanted to use as soon as I saw it. It says “happy” all over it, and I thought it would be perfect to document a recent trip to see the movie, “Suicide Squad” with my hubby. The movie is based on DC Comic books, and I'm a huge comic book nerd.

A lot of the patterned papers and embellishments have that really fun, playful, comic book kind of vibe, so it was a perfect match.

I hope you enjoy my layout and that I've inspired you to use a lot of fun colors and patterns in your scrapbooking today. Remember to be playful and have fun.

P.S. Yes, I am dressed up as Harley Quinn from the movie in this picture. Have a happy, scrappy day.

A Fun-Filled August in My Planner | Hip Kit Club

Hi everyone, it’s Andrea!  Today I want to share with you some fun planner decorating ideas using the beautiful new August Hip Kit Club kits!  I love working in my planner, and, realizing I’d gotten a little behind with my documenting and decorating, I pulled out the new August main kit and the embellishment add-on and started playing with the pretty papers and embellishments to create a new look for my planner for August.

I started by decorating the inside cover pockets and the planner cover page/dashboard. I love making different kinds of dashboards for my planners. For this month I decided to create a look that was really fun, cutesy, girly and summery, with a little bit of sassiness, too. To create my dashboard I used some pretty patterned papers from Cute Girl and a sheet of vellum (from the add-on cardstock kit) to make a cool layered effect.

I decorated the smaller front layer with some of the puffy stickers from Cute Girl, like the sweet little kitty and the script word, “Dream.”  On the vellum paper behind it, along with a couple pieces of ledger patterned paper, I used some washi tape from a previous HKC kit and some tags from the Amy Tangerine “Oh Happy Life” ephemera pack and the exclusive HKC ephemera pack to make a cool “Notes” spot in my planner.

After I finished my cover/dashboard page, I turned to the August calendar spread in my planner and started filling out the month with my schedule. I quickly realized how busy this month is actually going to be.

I decided that my decorating should reflect the busy-ness of the month and also all the exuberant, end-of-summer fun. This is reflected in the rainbow bright colors and whimsical feel of the embellishments I used, especially in the words I used to decorate my calendar.

I chose the Amy Tangerine transparency word “Crazy” and the die-cut word “Happy,” (both from the Oh Happy Life ephemera pack) plus a “captured” ephemera piece from the HKC exclusive ephemera pack to literally spell out how I expect this August to be – a crazy, happy month worth documenting.

After decorating my calendar, I decided to make an August divider page using a picture from this month. I love adding pictures into my planner. I think it helps to bring your plans to life and really show what your everyday life is like.

For the divider page I basically created a small layout using the rainbow-colored patterned paper from Cute Girl as my background. I added my picture and decorated with different embellishments from the kits to finish the layout. I also wrote the word “Hi” in a fun doodle-y fashion directly onto my page.

I had so much fun working on my planner this month, and I hope I have inspired you to decorate your planner using the oh-so-awesome HKC planner kits, which are just chock full of brand new scrappy goodies. Have a happy, scrappy, pretty, planner day!

"Hey, Hello, Hi" Layout | Hip Kit Club

Hi Everybody! Today I want to share with you a fun way to use the awesome July Hip Kits with some fun brush-script painting!

I just used some paint and some of the white cardstock that comes in the paper add on kit to make my own kind of brush-script "patterned paper" to coordinate with the lovely patterned papers in the kit -- like the lovely polka dot print from Pink Paislee Fancy Free!

I cut it into pieces and used it to frame the photo grid at the center of my layout, along with some of the cool exclusive papers designed by Kim Watson that come in the Main kit!

I used lots of fun embellishments like the Amy Tangerine rubber shapes, the Freckled Fawn gold puffy heart stickers, the Project Life Chipboard stickers, etc to surround my pictures and keep the eye flowing across my page.

I love the vibrant look of the layout and I hope that I have inspired you to combine some fun brush-script painting with your Hip Kit goodies in your scrapbooking today!!!

Fun With Ephemera...And Froyo | Hip Kit Club

Hi Everyone! Today we will be having some fun with ephemera and the July Hip Kit Club kits! First, let’s talk a little about ephemera. I love ephemera! I am always using ephemera in my scrapbooking.

There are a few different kinds of ephemera. There is the kind that you get from the places you go…like a ticket from a movie you went to, a map from Disneyland, a menu from your fave restaurant, that sort of thing. Then there is the kind you collect that reflects the things you like to do and your style…like me, I like to collect vintage ephemera like antique and retro Valentines Day and Christmas cards, and also vintage Disney ephemera. And then there is the kind of ephemera that comes in a scrapbook collection. This is a kind of “faux” ephemera, if you will, but I love it just as much as the other kinds and it is always the embellishment in a scrapbook collection or kit that I find myself using the most! I was super excited this month to see that both the July Main Hip Kit and the Project Life Kit had exclusive ephemera packs in them!

So today I want to share with you a scrapbook layout and a pocket page that I made for my project life album using lots of ephemera! I wanted to document a recent trip my hubby and I made to our fave Froyo place! I wanted to use ephemera from both of the July kits and a couple pieces of actual ephemera from the Froyo place. Project Life albums are a perfect place for your ephemera — they help complete the story of your daily life along with your pictures.

Anyways, I wanted to use the different kinds of ephemera in different ways. As you can see, some I used like stickers, some I clustered up, some I doodled on, and some I layered. I decided to add some stitching to some of my ephemera layers and clusters too.

And, as you can see, I also did some hand stitching on my page with a large heart embellishment I made, with some criss-crossed blue thread and a piece of the Bella Blvd patterned paper from the kit, in order to reflect the “good life” ephemera in the adjoining pocket page.

I layered some of the exclusive Hip Kit ephemera up underneath a picture on my layout to show you how ephemera can also be used as a kind of mat for your pics.

The ephemera in the kits can be used flat, or you can pop them up to add more dimension, like the little ephemera flower on my page that I popped up with foam dots on top of a button to make a really cool, dimensional embellishment.

I also want to point out how I used my “found” ephemera as well — as you can see, I used the little “Mickey’s Froyo” advertisement by just slipping it into a pocket. I added the “oh what fun” ephemera piece from the exclusive ephemera pack in the main kit and a little bow paperclip from the kit to just add some more interest to my found ephemera.

And for the small “Mickey’s Froyo” card, I just added it to my exclusive Hip Kit Project Life journaling card (where I wrote my fave froyo flavors) with another one of those cute bow paperclips from American Crafts. This way, it is easily removeable — a kind of interactive element in your project life album. I hope that I have inspired you to use some ephemera in your Project Life Scrapbooking today and that you will have as much fun with the exclusive Hip Kit July ephemera packs as I did!

Laugh Out Loud Title Fun | Hip Kit Club

Hi Everyone! Andrea here, and I’m going to share with you a fun layout I did where the focus is really on the title…but without distracting too much from or taking away from the picture. I don’t know about you, but when I scrap a layout, I like to really emphasize and draw focus first and foremost to the picture or pictures in that layout. However, sometimes it is fun to draw focus to another element on your page first and foremost, like the journaling, ephemera, or the title. For this layout, I used the July Hip Kit Club kits to make a 12×12 layout that really draws attention to the title of the page first, and then brings your eye around to the picture that the title is all about.

For my layout, I wanted to document a funny moment with my hubby. We were sticking out our tongues and laughing and so the title of my layout just had to be “laugh”! We love to laugh! I used one piece of white cardstock from the add on Paper kit for the background of my layout and one to cut out a really, really big “laugh” for my title. I used some paints to paint my “laugh” with an ombre effect and then glittered around the word. I wanted the title to be painted and glittered not just because I wanted it to stand out a lot, but also so that it would match some of the main elements on my layout. I wanted it to match all the hearts that I punched from the exclusive Hip Kit paper, Painted Dreams (the one that looks watercolored with black stripes), and also to match the glittered frame from Paige Evans Fancy Free by Pink Paislee which I used to frame my picture on the layout.

The repeating hearts on the layout serve to point out the sweet and silly love that my hubby and I have, not just with their shape but also because I wrote words like “happy” and “dorky” and “xoxo” on some of them in order to emphasize this fact and to also to re-emphasize the large “laugh” title.

To add some extra texture and interest to my layout, I used the several of the lovely embellishments that come in the July Hip kits, like the exclusive puffy stickers, the exclusive ephemera pack, the exclusive flair…all of which is so super cute!

I also used some other non-exclusive, but oh so adorable embellies from the kit, like the Becky Higgins Project Life chipboard, the Freckled Fawn gold hearts and plus signs, the Amy Tangerine rubber shapes, and a single American Crafts gold bow paperclip…all of which served to lead the eye around the page, especially to the title of the page and then to the picture. This is particularly true with the arrow embellishments that I used on this layout which literally point you to what I want you to look at!

I hope you like my layout and that you are inspired to create a title-focused layout using the pretty papers and goodies from the July Hip Kit Club kits! Please enjoy this process video of me making my “Laugh” layout!

Thank you for stopping by and I wish you a very happy, scrappy, fairytale of day filled with lots and lots of laughs!!!
