Hello Everybody! It's Carrie here with my first Halloween project for the year!! Today I decided to put together a mini (4 inch) embroidery hoop mail pocket to either send some goodies to a friend, or to hold photos, journaling and ephemera. I'm even considering adding it into my October Daily for this year to hold extra bits. I know we are all excited about the new Magical and Mischievous Kit, but since it's not out quite yet I used the equally cute This is Halloween and Spooky Paper Kits from last year.
The first thing I did was to disassemble the embroidery hoop, separating the two wood circles. I used the purple paper planner insert with the Mickey silhouette (from the Spooky Paper Kit) and traced the outside of the smaller wood circle on it's backside. Then, I cut out the circle with scissors and trimmed it down to about 2 inches tall for the pocket. Next, I put the embroidery hoop back together and traced the outside onto the diamond looking paper (from the This is Halloween Kit) for the background. I also cut this circle out with scissors.
For the next step, I added mod podge and pink glitter to the bottom 2/3 of my embroidery hoop. I used washi tape to mask off where I wanted the glitter to end so the line would be straight and it worked like a charm. To keep the glitter from falling or rubbing off I sprayed it with a coat of Krylon Make it Last Clear Sealer. I love this stuff because it does indeed keep the glitter in place but is completely clear so it doesn't dull the sparkle.
Once everything was dry I attached the background paper to the back of my hoop using liquid glue. Just make sure that the design you want is facing the right direction before adhering. Then, I attached the purple "pocket" to the bottom of the front of the hoop leaving a border of pink glitter around the edge.
With the base of my hoop complete, it was time to add in all my goodies! I used the ghost flair from the This is Halloween Kit and attached it to a black and white striped paper clip using a low temperature hot glue gun. (I prefer to use a low temp hot glue gun when I can since I'm prone to burning myself ; ) Then, I used the finished paperclip to attach the "i heart halloween" paper strip to the top of my pocket. Next, I used a glue dot to add the glitter pumpkin embellishment centered inside the Mickey silhouette. The glitter pumpkin came from the "Spooky Class" I took from Andrea last year at Disneyland (it was SO FUN!!!) Lastly, I filled the pocket full of mini 2x3 inch photos, tags, journaling spots, and lots of other goodies from one of the This is Halloween cut apart sheets.....and that's it!
Thanks for taking a look at my project! See ya next time :)
