May Guest Designer | Jen Schow

Hey there! It's Jen Schow and I am super excited to be the guest designer for the very first Fairytale Club kit, Girly and Strong! I started scrapbooking when I was twelve and never looked back. I love pretty papers, lots of florals, and telling stories that matter. Now you can find me blogging (sometimes) at www.craftyjenschow.com and can find links to where I am on the internets from there. ;)

So. Now to the pretty papers and stories! I love the theme this month and find myself wanting to tell lots of stories about strength and courage and bravery lately. I chose a photo of my daughter and I right before a tough time.

I decided to use just the papers included in the personal size planner kit and I love that they don't come with the holes punched because they work great on layouts!

I used the page with the quote as a feature and it fits perfectly with my story. Love that. Each planner page is double sided, so I flipped another one over and used it as a layer behind my photo.

I used a combination of die cuts and stickers for my "Brave" title. Love, love the gold accents on them!

I scattered some hearts and sequins diagonally on the page + some gold mist to finish it off! I love how simply this layout came together using the planner pages. You can see the process in my video below!

Thanks so much for letting me share and I'll be back a few more times this month with additional projects!

Jen

My Girl

Hello everyone ! It's Mindi here with you today. I am so excited to be sharing some pocket pages that I have created for my daughters album using the May kits' "Girly and Strong" collection for The Fairytale Club. I am an exclusive pocket page scrapper and love to fill up ALL the pockets.

Back in March my husband traveled with my daughters school class for a field trip. Afterwards they stopped off at the beach for a visit. My husband captured some great photos of my daughter Maddie. I thought that I would use those photos for today's project. She loves all things pink, purses, stuffed animals, and has such a strong personality.

Let's get started, shall we?! This first spread has some photos and also a little bit about their day.

This big photo was my favorite one of the day. I decided to go big and print it out 6x8. The gold puffy stickers are one of my favorite things of the Girly and Strong kit. I used the word love and added some other embellishments around. Here is a close up for you.

I really had fun using these sequins that come in the "happily ever after kit" around my pages as little embellishments. Plus they are a great way to add a little bit of glitter and pizazz!

The other side has a 3x4 pocket page so that I could add more photos and cards from the cut apart sheet.

On the bottom row I added another photo and this great pink #Girl card. I added a stamp onto the filler card and then added one of the hearts for an embellishments.

Next up is another spread from this same day. More photos of Maddie and more words about their adventure.

I really loved the patterened paper that comes with the kit. I wanted to use some among my pocket pages. I decided to try my hand at a traditional page. Even though it is in a smaller scale and not 12x12, it was kind of hard and different. I took 2 strips of the patterened papers and then layered a photo on top. My photo is a 3x4 size.

I added some embellishments here and there on this page and kept it it quite simple.

The other side has a smaller photo on the top and then a journaling card. I used the dark red colored card that says Friday on the top.

The last photo is one of both of their feet in the water. I added a line of journaling underneath the word #US. I used the # that came in the embellishment ephemera pack and then added some white letters. And of course I added some more sequins.

Okay everybody. That is it for me. I had so much fun putting these pages together. Have a fabulous day !

Travelers Notebook Fun!

Hello there everyone! It is me, Andrea here today, and I wanted to share with you a Traveler's Notebook that I have been working on, using the "Girly and Strong" collection for The Fairytale Club's May kits!

I started this TN during one of the NSD live streams that we did for The Fairytale Club on my FairytaleScrapbook YouTube Channel last weekend. I am not done with the TN yet, but I think it is coming along nicely! I wanted to share with you what I have done so far!

10-FTC-NSD-TN.jpg

I really love working with the May "happily ever after" kit! The kit, with all the goodies from the "Girly and Strong" collection, is just so cute and perfect I think for a project like this (in addition to be great for traditional layout scrapbooking and other planning and papercrafting projects), because there is just so much in the kit! You get so many patterned papers and you get so many planner dividers! I simply used one of the 12x12 patterned papers to be the cover of my TN and I used the personal sized planner dividers on the inside of my TN to be really cute TN pages!

I cut out my dapper, pink haired, cameo "fairytale girl" and added her to the cover of my TN. I did some stitching around her and added the word "pretty" from the gold foiled puffy sticker words to create a pretty cover for my TN.

I used my TN to document my recent trip to Disney's Dapper Day expo...which is a fun vintage event! I did a mix of black and white and colored pics to add to the fun vintage-meets modern style of the TN (which is the style of the Girly and Strong collection). And I played with the ephemera and the sequins, the paperclips, label stickers, and pretty patterned papers in the kit to make cute little "layout" pages in my TN. I particularly had fun fussy cutting out the roses from the "painted roses" patterned paper in the collection to use as lovely embellishments for some of my pages!

I will try to do another post soon to share more of the TN and what it looks like completed! You can watch me work on the pages shown in the pictures above and see how I made the TN insert (how I stitched it together, etc) on my live stream video on youtube. [note: Fast forward to minute 34].  I hope you enjoyed this post and that I inspired you to make a TN or work in your TN using the awesome "Girly and Strong" collection for the May kits! Hugs! And remember to live your life as a fairytale!!!

Girly & Strong Planner Pockets

Hi everyone, Becky here and I'm so excited to share my first ever project for the Fairytale Club! When I first opened this months kit I ran to grab my planner, I was so inspired and needed all of these cute goodies in it right at that moment!

I use a personal size planner and I love that there is an option for different size dashboards in the kit based on the size of your planners.

June Collection/Kits Sneak Peek!

Hi Everyone! Andrea here and today I am excited to share with you a little sneak peek at the June Collection/Kits! The name of the exclusive collection for June is "Storytime"! As you may or may not know, every month The Fairytale Club comes out with a new, exclusive collection for it's kits, which is inspired by favorite fairytales.

This new kit is inspired by so many awesome fairytales and fairytale characters...one of which is Peter Pan! There will be a full reveal of all the fairytales that inspired the collection when the full reveal of the June collection happens later this month!  In the meantime, here is a fun sneak peek to get you excited about next month!

Here is an inspiration board that I used while designing the collection:

As you can see, a major theme of the "Storytime" collection is the concept of "the story" -- stories are important. Every day of our lives we are telling our own story, simply by living, but even more so as memory keepers, scrapbookers and planners are constantly documenting their personal story and that of their loved ones! This isn't the only kind of story found in the collection though...you can also see references to books...books are filled with stories! You can see all the references to adventure, because often the stories told in books are adventures, but also because reading a story itself is a kind of incredible adventure of the imagination!

And of course, there are references to fairytales and fairytale creatures, this is because here at The Fairytale Club, we love a good fairytale story the most, but also because we believe in "living life as a fairytale" and being the heroes of our own story and writing our own happily ever after! But let's go back to the cute fairytale creatures that I just mentioned...they pop up here and there in this collection...and there are so darn adorable!!! There is some really pretty unicorn and mermaid awesomeness in this collection! But there is a lot that is just really versatile and will work with whatever you are documenting! There are lots of pretty graphic patterns in the collection. And there is this feeling of summer time and relaxation. It is the perfect collection for a vacation away from home, documenting the beach and summer outings, or a staycation, cuddled up with a good book! The color scheme is really great because it has colors like blues and greens in it as well as pinks and lavenders so it really can be used to document any of your loved ones (boys and girls)! Of course there is a perfect amount of sweet and cute and whimsy in there too, so for all my girls that love pink and gold and pretty...you will find that in this collection as well!

P.S. Can you name some of the ways in which you see Peter Pan in this collection sneak? I will give you one...Peter loved a good story...especially the stories about himself! (And he loves telling them to anyone who will listen, including a certain group of lovely ladies who live and swim in a particular lagoon!)  :-)  Do you have any guesses on other fairytales and fairytale characters that influenced this collection? You can put your guesses up on our Facebook Group! Those who guess will be entered to win a fun free prize -- some Fairytale Ears (to wear to the parks or just around the house while you are crafting...I personally like to do both)! Guess correctly and you get an even better chance of winning the prize so really think about it and check for clues inside the inspiration board too! We will take guesses on facebook up until the reveal day and then a winner will be announced!

National Scrapbook Day Celebration Part 1: Live Streams & Weekend Review

Hi Everyone! It is Andrea here and today I want to do a little review of our NSD celebration that we had this last weekend (which was just the first part of our NSD celebration...we are doing another towards the end of the month), to share with you how the live stream went, and to show you the projects that I worked on during this fun online crop!

So this last weekend (May 6th and 7th), as part of our National Scrapbook Day celebration, I hosted a couple of live streams on my FairytaleScrapbook youtube channel!

It was so much fun! It was a cool online crop where I got a chance to talk to and interact with a lot of our awesome Fairytale Club members and fans! We had such a great time together! The chat consisted of fun scrappy topics..."what tools are on your wishlist right now"..."what are you working on for NSD", etc... I also took requests for what scrappy and planny things I should work on during the stream. And of course, we talked about the May "Girly and Strong" collection and the amazing Disney female characters and movies that inspired it! We also talked quite a bit about other fun stuff too, like our fave Disney movies, music, video games, and hobbies...some fun Marvel universe/comic book stuff...some Star Wars and Harry Potter goodness...our fave t.v. shows right now, etc! I loved it! And I think the conversation very well reflected the kinds of things our club members are into and inspired by -- things that are creative, magical, whimsical, and reflect a "once upon a time/happily ever after" sensibility!

During the live streams I worked on several projects. I worked on and completed two layouts, I worked on my planner calendar set up for May, and I worked on a Travelers Notebook.

I will be sharing my Traveler's Notebook and my planner set up in different, future posts, once they are completed! :-)

If you joined us live for one or both of the streams, thank you so much for your support and for participating in our fabulous NSD celebration part 1!  Please join us at the end of the month, on the last weekend (May 27th and 28th), to celebrate some more...this time with fun challenges from our Design Team!

Remember to live your life as a fairytale!!! Huuuugs! -- Andrea

Scrap Gals iNSD “A Plan to Scrap” challenge with Andrea Bethke using The Fairytale Club May kit!!!

Today I hosted a challenge as part of the Scrap Gals iNSD celebratory online crop over on their Facebook page! The challenge is to incorporate a planner decorating look and/or techniques into your scrapbook layout, or visa-versa ( i.e incorporate a scrapbook layout style and/or techniques into your planner decor)!  It could be called a "scrap/plan-lift" challenge"! And I used the May "Girly and Strong" collection/kits for my challenge!!!

I went ahead and made both a planner dashboard pocket page AND an 8 ½ x11 layout so you can see how the same ideas can work for both planning ans scrapbooking and how one can influence and inspire the other. If you want to follow along, you can do the same as me, and make a planner page and a scrapbook page OR you can just make one of the two. So if you just want to make a layout, you can use the planner page that I made to inspire your layout. And if you just want to make a planner page, you can use the scrapbook layout I made as inspiration for your planner decor. (note: you don't have to use my planner or my scrapbook lo as your inspiration though...you can use inspiration from social media, etc).

The point of this challenge it to get you out of your box a little bit and help you to think about how inspiration can come from anywhere! If there is a planner page that catches your eye, don't just assume that you can't apply those same ideas to your scrapbooking! You absolutely can! Inspiration comes from so many places! You could take a look at what the planner girls are doing, and maybe add one or two fun, decorative paperclips to your page...why not?! And the opposite is true as well, if you are a planner, look at what the scrapbook girls are doing, and maybe put some pictures into your planner....why not? Have fun!!!

Both planning and scrapbooking are important papercrafting ways by which we document our life and tell our story! Let's tell a good one! Let's live our life as a fairytale and write our own “happily ever after” one scrapbook layout or planner page at a time!!!

Remember to make your order over at The Fairytale Club, to get our premier collection, “Girly and Strong” so that you can make fun stuff like this too! You can order a scrapbook kit, a planner kit, or a “happily ever after” kit (that has both the planner and the scrapbook goodies in it plus more)! Join in on our magical papercrafting adventure today and start living your life as a fairytale! (and there is a coupon code in the video, so make sure to watch to get it so you can use it to get a 10% discount on your Fairytale Club kit!)

I mean, how cute are these goodies?!!! Anyways, I hope you enjoy my video & I inspire you to create something with a lot of fairydust ;-) and to think outside the box...and hopefully I also gave you some fun ideas on how to use your May kit! Happy inter-National Scrapbook Day everyone!!!

Please share the fabulous things you make for my “A Plan to Scrap” iNSD challenge on the Scrap Gals Community Facebook page (on the share thread for it)!!! :-) Can't wait to see what you create!!!l
